Bus Safety - Code of Conduct

Goulburn Valley Grammar School students travelling to and from school on buses are bound by the same behavioural expectations expected of them whilst attending school.

Rights and Responsibilities of Students


  • Safe and comfortable travel
  • To be treated with courtesy
  • Travel free from verbal and physical abuse
  • Expect their property to be safe
  • Board and disembark in a safe manner
  • Enjoy their travel


  • Contribute to safe and enjoyable travel for all passengers
  • Be responsible for their attitudes and actions
  • Respect the rights of other passengers
  • Treat bus drivers with respect
  • Follow directions/instructions of drivers
  • Report any unsafe behaviour to driver/school
  • Express concerns in an appropriate manner
  • Be cooperative

Expected behaviour when waiting for the bus, whilst on the bus and when alighting from the bus

  • Wait well back from the bus until it stops
  • Show bus pass, ticket or ID upon request
  • Sit properly on a seat and remain in the seat for the entire journey
  • Wear a seatbelt where fitted
  • Store school bags under the seat or in an appropriate luggage area
  • Wait until the bus stops before standing to get off
  • Never cross the road in front of the bus. Wait until the bus has moved away, you have a clear view and it is safe to cross the road
  • Use crossings or traffic lights where possible
  • Parents should pick up students on the same side of the road as the bus
  • Students are expected to use the pedestrian crossings within the school grounds
