Talleigh McCabe started GVGS in Year 7 after completing Primary School at St. John’s Primary School in Euroa. He is joined at the School by younger sister Chloe (Year 11) and, up until recently, his older brother Nick (Class of 2022).
“I’ve made so many good friends over the years. Being at GVGS really expands your social circle so much because people travel from all over to attend,” he says.
“I’ve enjoy studying art, accounting and physics. I find physics interesting because it’s applicable to the real world and how it functions, so there’s a part of it that just makes sense to me.”
Talleigh looks back on his time at GVGS fondly and highlights the positives of a two-hour round trip each weekday.
“Overall, being at GVGS has been a lot of fun, but this final year has been stressful at times. There’s been so much work thats needed to get done, but our year level is very close-knit. We’re all very supportive of each other and we’ve all pulled some late nights together – we just do what needs to be done. The teachers have been great too – they’re always there to help out when you need it and I feel really lucky with the teachers I’ve had in Year 12,” he says.
“Travelling between Euroa and Shepp is a lot, but at the end of each school day you get an hour to sit down and decompress before you get home, so that’s been a bit of an advantage for me.”
In 2025, Talleigh will spend the year travelling around the country with the ADF Gap Year program.
“It’ll be good to have a break before starting uni and I’m looking forward to getting away for a bit and meeting new people. I’ve been looking into it for the last couple of years and now I’ve happily made the decision to take it on,” he says.
“The first ten weeks of the program are in Wagga Wagga and then you get based somewhere around Australia so I’m keen to try something new and get out there. I think it’ll be a great opportunity to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone.”
